City Meditation Retreat

Group retreat is a transformative experience!

We typically think of going on retreat as a chance to get away, but what happens to the benefits of our practice when we return home?

By entering into a retreat setting here in Fort Collins, we can bring the rewards of deep meditation practice directly into our reality. Magic reemerges in our usual surroundings. Calm returns to our daily rituals, and our appreciation for this bustling city is restored.

Give yourself the gift of urban retreat and enliven the life you have, right here and now.

The Fort Collins Shambhala Meditation Center invites you to explore your inherent wisdom and kindness during our Spring Urban Retreat. Together we will explore a week of mindfulness meditation practice, contemplation, and creating sacred community.  In this way we can experience how we can manifest wisdom in our everyday life and relationships.

This retreat is open to everyone - both new and experienced meditators.

Weekthün: A weekthün is a week-long meditation retreat.  In this retreat, we will ground ourselves in the practice of shamatha, or calm-abiding meditation.

As a group, we work to create an environment that supports each individual and the community altogether through:  daily practice, noble silence, simple group meals and rota (participation in food prep, clean-up, care of the environment and other tasks).  This program is appropriate for both new and experienced meditators of any faith.  There are no prerequisites.  We will be doing a few traditional chants at the beginning and end of each day (in English).

Registration - The Early Bird fee for the program, including lunch and dinner, is $350; after February 15th the fee is $400.  Individuals may sign up for 1-3 days - but only during the first three days of the weekthün.  Beginning with Orientation on Friday evening (required for all participants to attend), the "open" days are Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  (e.g., A participant would be asked to come Friday evening even if the day they attend is Monday.) The cost for this is $75/day.

It is traditional for students to offer a monetary gift to the teacher in appreciation for receiving the teachings, and in recognition of the years of training and understanding the teacher has cultivated.  There will be an opportunity to offer a teaching gift at the program.

Lodging - For those wishing to attend from far away, the Center members will assist with lodging.  If you will be requiring lodging, email us at [email protected]

Program Discounts - We offer program discounts to make our programs available to anyone who wants to participate.  If the program price is an obstacle for you, please consider what you can afford, and offer as much of the program fee as you can.  When you register, please mention what you can afford to pay in the comments section, and email the Registrar at [email protected]

What is the Patron Price?  Those who are able to offer more than the regular program price can select the patron price option.  By selecting this option, your generosity is helping cover the costs of those who may not be able to pay the full price of the program.

For those who are meeting requirements for other programs: Participation in the entire week counts toward one week of dathün and fulfills a portion of group practice requirements for Enlightened Society Assembly and Shambhala Guide Training. You do not need to plan to attend these programs to join the retreat.
