Open House Talk with Shastri Barbieri

Awake Society:

As this is our first Open House Talk of the new year, we felt it would be good to review and look at our view of Awake Society as we enter the year.

Join us for a discussion and exploration of what we have personally been engaged in and what could be the efforts toward building a more vibrant and sane society.

As of January 17th it will be 362 days since Donald Trump was inaugurated as our 45th President. Much has happened in that time in policy changes particularly through Presidential Executive Orders. These changes are often temporary - as each new administration comes in, policies will often gradually evolve or change dramatically for intervals of time.

But the most concerning changes are happening in a more infiltrating and pervasive manner, that could impact the direction our society heads towards in the future; in our culture.

The current state of world affairs is a source of concern to all of us: the threat of nuclear war, wide spread poverty and economic instability, social and political chaos, and psychological upheaval of many kinds. The world is in absolute turmoil.

The Shambhala teachings are based on the premise that there is basic human wisdom that can help solve the world’s problems. This wisdom does not belong to any one culture or religion nor does it only come from the West or the East. ChogyamTrungpa, Rinpoche

Shambhala - The Sacred Path of the Warrior: Published in 1984

Whether your life revolves around current affairs, culture, finance, activism, politics or any other essential realm, we are all part of a collective story that has unfolded in dramatic ways from 2016, through this year and beyond.  Please come to discuss, exchange & explore how we can be of help to our society during these times.

SCHEDULE FOR THE EVENING:
Sitting meditation begins at 7. Free meditation instruction also at 7 PM.

The talk will begin about 7:30 PM.  A light reception of snacks, wine and non-alcoholic beverage will be provided.

An Open House is an opportunity to meditate in a supportive group setting, to learn about how to apply the principles of meditation to everyday life, and to meet and mingle with others in a community interested in mindfulness.  Bring your friends!

We offer an Public Sitting every Wednesday at 7 PM, with free meditation instruction available at that time.  On these evenings there is a reading or brief presentation & discussion, sitting meditation and a social time with tea. So come as many Wednesdays as you can.

You're warmly invited to join us!  There is no charge however donations are cheerfully accepted.  Suggested optional donation is $10, students $5.
