Shambhala Training Level I is the first weekend retreat of the Way of Shambhala path of training that introduces the practice of meditation and the basic principles of the Shambhala teachings. The retreat includes meditation instruction and practice, talks, group discussion, and individual meetings with the Director or the Assistant Director. A complimentary copy of the book, Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior, will be presented to participants at the conclusion of the class followed by a celebratory reception beginning at noon on Sunday.

Through the practice of meditation, we begin to glimpse that goodness—rather than confusion—is the unconditional ground of our existence. Opening to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as genuine and compassionate human beings.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Level I is an introductory program open to those who wish to begin a path of meditation classes and programs.  This level is open to everyone whether or not you have any previous meditation experience.

Prerequisite: None—Everyone is welcome.

Shambhala Training is a sequence of contemplative weekend retreats, suitable for anyone of any spiritual tradition and way of life who wishes to explore the transformative benefits of meditation. The weekends involve the study and practice of Shambhala warriorship: a path of nonaggression born from the willingness to meet our world openly, without bias or judgment. In addition, it offers a way to use the challenges of everyday life as opportunities for both contemplative practice and genuine social action. The retreat workshops include thorough instruction in the practices of sitting and walking meditation, one-on-one conversations with senior teachers to clarify questions, group discussions, and talks by the teachers.

The five-week companion course, Meditation in Everyday Life, complements the training in Level I, and is highly recommended. Check back for the date; it's tentatively planned to begin September 25th for five Tuesdays.

Our Generosity Policy:
In order to make our programs accessible to everyone, we have a “pay as much as you can afford” policy. If you are able, we ask that you pay a minimum of 50% of the program fee in order to cover related program costs.  You may write in the amount you are able to pay in the "Notes" section when you register online and pay Saturday morning at registration.  If you have questions concerning our policy, please contact the Registrar at [email protected]

For those who can offer more than the program price, we have a “patron price.” Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price.
